This picture, from Alan Lathan, shows an incident at Tweseldown Racecourse near Farnborough. The book "Britain's First Warplanes" by Jack Bruce (1987) identifies aircraft 212 as a Breguet L2 (70hp Renault) delivered to Farnborough 27.9.12 and to 2 Squadron 3.10.12.
It was transferred to 4 Squadron 21.12.12 "but it soon went back to the Breguet works for repair" [was this the incident?] Back to RAF 17.4.13 now with an 85hp Salmson, it had done 1 ½ hours flying by 22.8.13 and was still listed with 4 Squadron 19.12.13 but did not fly again.
4 Squadron was at Farnborough 16.9.12 and moved to Netheravon 14.6.13. So it could be the incident referred to above or after it returned to 4 Squadron - I would suspect the latter and which therefore accounted for it only doing 1 ½ hours between April and August 1913. It may thus have crashed between 17.4.13 and 14.6.13.
Can anyone add to this story??

Not much to add but Robertson's Military Aircraft Serials says the engine was changed to a 85hp Canton Unne. Who Knows?
