Hi folks:
Here's one I started earlier...to keep Paddy company on his SE5a build. He'll still finish before me... ![]() Simple m/o - make it look as much like the box art as possible. Having b-i-g fun with this one. Haven't got the faintest how to weather Clear Doped Linen (CDL) so just looked at the box art and thought "...copy that". A thin wash of Burnt Sienna was dabbed on with a ratty old piece of sponge ripped from an old sponge ball from a magic trick. Dabbed off with more sponge and prodded and poked around, it finally looked like the box art and was sealed with Tamiya clear. The same process was repeated with Raw Sienna and sealed with more Tamiya clear. The brown edging to the fuselage took an a-m-a-z-i-n-g length of time to mask off with 1.5mm edging tape before covering everything else with Tamiya tape. The upper wing's sitting in the background and has had its edging tape and Tam infill applied - just the top surface to go, then the tailplanes. Shame I forgot to drill out the oblong cable channels in the tail planes before painting and weathering - doh! I wuz e-v-e-r so careful drilling and filing, heart in mouth. The upper wing edging's now done and the kit is now back on the bench after a long 'rest'. Bob's Buckles are standing by... ![]() ![]() Steve ![]() Edited by The Doctor - 29 Apr 2009 at 19:31 |

Tally-ho Steve, I'd like to second Bob's welcome and also say thanks for posting that lovely work. The finish you've achieved makes the wing ribs appear to be just under that linen cover. Wonderful! Again, very happy you decided to join us. Paddy |
